Two local businesses prosecuted in relation to waste disposal

Continuing the drive to create a cleaner borough, Redbridge Council recently prosecuted two local businesses on Goodmayes Road, Ilford, in relation to the disposal of their commercial waste.

CICI LIMITED - a food outlet, and Shabul Islam, Company Director of Canopy – a shisha bar and food outlet, were both taken to court, in individual prosecutions, after failing to show how they disposed of their commercial waste in the borough.

In separate cases heard at Barkingside Magistrates Court in January, CICI LIMITED, and Islam, aged 37 (Company Director for Canopy), both pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to provide waste transfer documentation, which is required by law for businesses to show they are getting rid of their commercial waste legally and responsibly using registered waste removal services.

CICI LIMITED was given a court imposed fine and ordered to pay council costs totalling £1,195.

Islam was given a court imposed fine and ordered to pay court and council costs totalling £1,295.
